But really . . . why?

So a guy calls me at lunch to follow up on my membership to his real estate website . . . fellow real estate agent that I am. I am not a real estate agent and was just about to hang up on the crazy man who was trying to sell me something over the phone when he said, "No, wait, we have a credit card number for you. It ends (blah, blah, blah)." This was bad. It was my credit card number.

Turns out someone has stolen my card number and is signing me up for things. Gevalia Coffee Club, for example. Why would anyone do this? I can see stealing my card number to steal things. Maybe you need them and your momma didn't teach you not to take things that don't belong to you. But why steal a number to pester someone? And to pester them with coffee? Honestly.
